COX'S BAZAR

Cox's Bazar is located at a distance of 152km south of Chittagong . It has a total area of 2260qskm. British captain Hiram Cox in 1799 defeated the Burmese king in a battle and set up a bazar (market) here which was named “Cox's Bazar” after him.

Cox's Bazar is called the Tourist Capital of Bangladesh. Having the world's longest unbroken sandy sea beach (120 km) sloping gently down to the blue water of the Bay of Bengal . It's golden sands, towering cliffs, surfing waves, rare conch shells, colorful pagodas and Buddhist temples against the picturesque background of a chain of forested hills with rich wildlife made this beach as one of the most attractive tourist spot in the world .

St. Martin

St. Martin is the country's only coral island, named after a British Provincial Governor and called Narikel Jinjira (Coconut island) by the locals. It is one of the best places in Bangladesh . The island has two lagoons that support thick mangrove forests. A rocky platform surrounds the island and extends into the sea, the crystal clear water will allow you to see about 20 feet deep into the sea. Attractions are beaches around the island, crystal stones, coconut groves, sea crabs, turtle shells and pearls. About 2.5 hours journey by sea truck and ships from Teknaf and you can see Myanmar border on your way to St. Martin . Location of the hotels over looking the water is marvelous and every morning you'll wake up to a view of the sun rising over the mountains of Myanmar .


Maheskhali Island: Some 6 km north-west of Cox's Bazar, Maheskhali island makes a pleasant day trip. Walking along the jetty into town, you'll see a hill to the north. This holy spot is the principal tourist attraction with a famus sputa on top. The climb takes only five minutes. From the top you can get a good view of most of the island. A few hundred meters away is Adinath a Shiv Mandir (ashram) dedicated to Shiva. It is a delightfully serene place set in a beautiful garden.

Dulhazra safari Park: This is located at a distance of 107 km. south on Cox's Bazar- Chittagong Highway . It has a total area of 900 ha. Of land. Unprotected Different type of animals including Tiger, Lion, Elephant,\Deer, monkey,birds etc can be seen .

Teknaf: Teknaf is 85km from Cox's Bazar by road and 120km by the beach along the sea. The Bangladesh – Myanmar border is formed here by the Naaf river. Teknaf a romantic old world border township in the southern tip of Bangladesh territory.

Sonadia Island : This 4.63sq km island is 7km from Cox's Bazar. Is was once a place renowned for growing pink pearls. Sonadia with a variety of mangroves is noted for its bird life and in particular acts as a temporary sanctuary for migrating birds, petrels, geese, curlews, ducks and other waterfowl.


Himachari: Himachari is the nicest beach near Cox's Bazar, just before the beach are some low cliffs and gorges, cattle and water buffalo appear at sunset, their bells tinkling on their way to the near by village.


Inani beach: Inani beach is considered the world's largest and broadest beach about 30km south of Cox's Bazar.




Ramu & Lamaparah: Ramu is noted for a beautiful monastery containing images of Buddha in bronze, silver and gold inlaid with precious and semiprecious stones. The beautiful Burmese Bara Khyang at lamapara has the country's largest bronze statue of the Buddha, and it's three wooden buildings house a number of relics-precious Buddhist images in silver and gold set with gems. The temples lies in a quite palm shaded village about 5km from Ramu.
